Awareness raising for the protection of Kambui Hills is entering its next phase! In the second week of August, the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (CSSL) collaborated with the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) and local communities to install signposts along the buffer zone. The Project Manager, Aruna Koroma stated in an interview earlier this year, “… we shall use the signposts to help us inform people when they enter the protected area”.

“The installation of signposts in the Kambui hills forest reserve is well progressing smoothly. The main objective of this initiative is to enhance the core of the reserve, particularly in both threatened and intact forest areas. By strategically placing signposts, the BIOPAMA project aims to improve navigational assistance for visitors, research teams, and forest rangers within the reserve.”

The signposts will not only provide direction but will also serve as educational tools, highlighting the significance of the forest’s biodiversity and hence, its conservation. This promotes awareness among visitors about the fragility of the forest ecosystem and encourages responsible practices.

The BIOPAMA project is collaborating with local authorities, the Division of Forestry, the National NPAA and forest management teams at chiefdom level to ensure proper placement and maintenance of the signposts.
